Phase 1 Complete!

We are coming to the end of our first 4 weeks of Jamie Eason’s LiveFit program. How have we found it? Well, the first month for us was more about the eating plan, we had been lifting in the gym for a little while before we began the program and we see the work outs as more of an introduction to the gym floor and lifting weights (more for beginners). BUT, we wanted to stick completely to the plan and so decided to start it from the beginning and work through the plan as it was intended, especially with the difference in the eating plan. What foods we previously saw as healthy or nutritious (scrambled egg with the yolks, milk and butter on toast haha!) were not appropriate for such an intense program designed to maximise great results.

The food was somewhat easier than we thought in that there is a clear list of foods you are allowed and a set daily plan detailing the foods and amounts you are allowed. As long as you stick with the plan and eat the foods listed, it was easy enough to stick with it. The only thing that becomes boring is the 5 egg whites you have to eat every morning … 4 weeks have passed and they are definitely still as boring as day 1 but you just get on with it. Rose really struggled in the first week to stomach the egg whites every morning, (literally nearly puking as she had worked herself up so much!) so she ordered liquid egg whites from bulkpowders.co.uk , she says the are much much better; less gloopy, less eggy and much quicker to use than separating your own. We try to see it as fuel for the body rather than delicious egg whites haha. Other than that, the food was OK … turkey, chicken, cod, talipa, lamb etc. You are allowed good carbs such as sweet potato, brown rice, wholewheat pasta to name a few so that is good and as much salad and veg as you like.

The exercises were well set out and designed to target specific muscle groups which we really enjoyed. Weeks 1 and 2 exercises were different to weeks 3 and 4 and what we have coming in the next few weeks is different again. We had 4 exercise days in the first two weeks, 5 in weeks 3 and 4 and next week we have 6! So 6 days a week with an added half an hour cardio 4 days a week after our work outs, we are like :O ! We are recognised daily in the gym now which I think makes us official gym addicts, we have been accepted into the land of fitness 🙂 ! We are excited and raring to go with it as we know we will loose even more weight with the added cardio. We are going to try and mix up the cardio not just stick to the boring treadmill every day, we are going to try all sorts of hiit woooop, we will see how get on and let you know 🙂 .

So the results so far … both of us have lost a lot of body fat and build a considerable amount of muscle which we are thrilled with! What more could we ask for?! We are happy and we are not the only ones noticing the difference, all our friends and family are noticing huge changes which is a huge motivation for us. We can clearly see the plan is working. We have a lot more energy, our metabolism has officially changed, we are thinner and we are stronger this all added together means we are a lot happier!

Clean eating when going out

When you are eating clean or are on a restricted diet, the prospect of going out to a restaurant usually fills you with dread. Am I right??? You have your mind set on eating clean, your focused, and in all honesty you don’t want the temptation or to fall off track. However, we both went for a meal last night for Kelly’s birthday. We went to Miller & Carter in Cheshire Oaks (for those that know it), its a steakhouse and a really nice one too. Our husbands went along with the rest of the family so it was a nice meal out. BUT, when it came to the menu, we studied and studied it whilst everybody else on our table leisurely sipped on their beer, champagne or cocktail. We were really happy to see some clean food choices and the waitress made it clear that we could omit or substitute things to our preference WAHOO! This was music to our ears and made our meal choice a whole lot easier. We went for Chicken Salad with quinoa, cous cous, nuts, baby leaves and tomatoes with a little drizzle of lime. It was DELICIOUS and put us both in such a good mood.

The boys were sat drinking away whilst we stuck to water, but eating out clean gradually gets easier and easier the more you adjust. Eating clean for us is not a temporary fix it is a lifestyle we want to live. We need to get used to eating out and the difficulties we may face so we are better equipped to deal with it and not give into temptation too much. Of course there are going to be times we have treats and indulge a little, but as long as for the most part our diet is 80-90% clean, we will be very happy.

Those who want to eat clean when you do dine out, before you go out for a meal, if you know where you are going beforehand, maybe take a look at the menu before and make a WISE food choice before and try to stick to it when you are there. Alternatively, have a light snack (preferably slow release) an hour before you leave to keep unhealthy cravings at bay. Or for those that do enjoy a clean lifestyle most of the time, then enjoy yourself when you go out for a meal, its not the end of the world if you indulge…they are luxuries you can allow yourself for working so hard!!

Keeping focused

Today is my birthday…I’m not really a birthday person and tend not to celebrate. However, I landed really late last night after travelling to Marbella for my friends hen do. There was 27 of us in total, just shows how loved she is ha. It was an absolute ball, I had an amazing time and had never been before so it was a great girlie holiday! BUT, boy oh boy, it was hard to stick to clean eating and exercising whilst away. When I say hard, I mean pretty much impossible. We were at pool parties in the day and out until the sun was rising the following morning. We averaged around 2/3 hours sleep a night.

On the plane home I truly felt deflated and could just feel the build up of toxins in my body. So today I woke up and went straight to the gym in the morning, then to work. As my diet has been clean for so many weeks, 4 days of solid drinking with no sleep destroyed me. The most important thing to do though is get straight back into healthy eating and exercising. It is so important to stay on track and only giving into yourself and carrying on eating the junk and drinking alcohol only furthers you away from your goals. KEEP FOCUSED!! When you have fallen off track, jump straight back on and FORGET about it! Work hard and keep pushing forwards. Yes, I felt bloated, severely hung-over, tired and lacked ANY energy but I got up today after 6 hours sleep, on my birthday and said to myself LET’S DO THIS KELLY!! I had a great time and made some amazing memories with friends, enjoyed myself to the max with no worries…so I have to be willing to forgive myself and forget about my break and keep pushing further towards what I want. People who don’t accept and move on from their setbacks can slip back into a cycle of bad habits. OK so you had a bad day or even a bad week, don’t let that turn into a bad month or a bad year. Don’t beat yourself up about it, you are who you choose to be, so choose what you do wisely. If you are tired of keep starting over then stop giving up! Enjoy time with loved ones, holidays, parties etc. they are luxuries we are so privileged to experience…but no matter how slow you feel your progress is, you are progressing. Keep focused and work towards your dreams, nobody achieved success without encountering setbacks or failures first.

Strawberry Protein Cakes Recipe

These are our delicious healthy strawberry protein cakes! They should be stored in the fridge and can also be frozen. Eat up to 4 as a healthy snack or as part of a meal, they are filling so 4 is more than enough 🙂 . Enjoy them and don’t feel bad about eating cakes as these are 100% clean and are great if you are having bad food cravings!

Ingredients

1 cup oat flour or 1 1/2 cup oatmeal (blended)
2 scoops strawberry whey protein
1/4 tsb salt
1/2 tsb bicarbonate of soda or baking soda
4 egg whites
1/2 cup Splenda, Truvia or Ideal
8oz / 250g baby food apple and strawberry dessert
4oz / 120ml water

Method

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C / 350°F.
  • Smear a 8”x8” pyrex dish with coconut oil and line with greaseproof baking paper, place to the side.
  • In a large bowl mix the oat flour (or blended oatmeal), strawberry whey protein, salt, and bicarbonate of soda (or baking soda).
  • In another bowl mix your egg whites, splenda (or alternative), apple and strawberry dessert and water.
  • Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix them together.
  • Poor your ingredients into the pyrex dish.
  • Bake for about 20 – 25 minutes or until you can poke a knife into the top of the cake and it comes out cleanish. I like the knife to be slightly sticky so that the cakes are still slightly moist inside.
  • Leave in the dish and cool before cutting.
  • Cut into 16 squares, and eat either warm or cold. The choice is yours!

Jamie Eason’s LiveFit Trainer

So, we have been on the bodybuilding.com website non-stop over the past few weeks. It is AMAZING! For anybody who hasn’t ever ventured on to have a look or have been put off because of the name, let me tell you YOU are missing out! It is such a cool tool to use and has so much information on there for both men and women. Yes the website is called BodyBuilding, but don’t let that put you off for those of you that think ‘eurgh I don’t want to be a body builder’. You can make a free profile on there and basically follow a workout plan along with nutrition advice and have it all synced to your phone via their app!! It is sooo good and we have been a little obsessed recently.

Anyway, we have decided to follow Jamie Eason’s LiveFit program which is on their website. Jamie Eason is perfection, simple as that her body is unreal and she has children too (major mum to mum crush). The program consists of 3 phases and is 12 weeks long so each phase is 4 weeks. Jamie has designed the program really well and provides you with all your nutrition advice so even those that aren’t too familiar with clean eating can pick it up quite easy. All the workouts are split up day by day to avoid reaching a plateau with your weight/exercise. It is great as she provided descriptions, pictures and videos to supplement each exercise so you can be sure you are doing them right. Alternative exercises are also provided in case your gym does not have certain gym equipment. Now the account that you can build for yourself is all interactive, so with each of your workouts you can ‘track your progress’. This allows you to add weight, reps, sets etc to each of you workout days so you can keep track of your performance. We can’t shout about it enough, its fantastic. Today is our first day on Jamie’s plan so we went shopping yesterday and filled the fridge and cupboards with our clean diet. It basically consists of 5-6 small meals a day, so we are eating every 2-3 hours. We have all the supplements we need and cant wait to get through the program and see our progress. We will update our exercises as we go along and let you know how we get on with the program.  At the minute our husbands appear a bit shocked by our commitment to the plan and I think even they question how long we are going to stick it out for…GIRLPOWER!! I think in their heads they think we are going to put on 3 stone each and be bigger than them, haha so far from the truth but sometimes they think they know it all (*shakes head) we will just have to SHOW them. We know we are in it to win it and that’s all that matters, cant wait to see our bodies changing!
